Ride OC Transpo free on New Year’s Eve starting at 5 p.m.

The City of Ottawa announced its plans today to get everyone home safely on New Year’s Eve. OC Transpo, in partnership with the CAA North and East Ontario (Canadian Automobile Association,) MADD Ottawa Chapter (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and the City’s Safer Roads Ottawa Program will start its free transit service on buses, the O-Train Trillium Line and Para Transpo at 5 p.m. this year. Public transit is the best option for travelling to New Year’s Eve festivities downtown and across the city.

OC Transpo will operate a Sunday service schedule on New Year’s Eve. For those who want to celebrate into the early morning hours on January 1, free transit service will continue until 4:30 a.m. Customers can use OC Transpo’s online Travel Planner to help them plan their trip to and from their destination.

Para Transpo will operate a holiday schedule on New Year’s Eve. Regular scheduled trips will be automatically cancelled, but customers can book trips by calling 613-244-7272 on or after December 25.

Several roads will be closed in and around the downtown core due to special events taking place. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early. In addition to using free public transit, the City also encourages residents to carpool or choose a designated driver for their travels on New Year’s Eve.
