The following notice was received from Via Rail Canada in regards to work along the Fielding/Otterson Corridor in River Ward.  If you did not receive this notice directly from Via Rail and are in the affected area, please contact Pamela O’Leary at Pamela_O’Leary@viarail.ca to be added to their contact list.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the plan for night construction of the eastern switch for the siding construction project at Wass has been revised as follows:

Cut in East switch + New Switch Machine Installation (on Fielding Drive end)

• This work must take place during the night when there are no trains operating on the tracks.
• Construction work will take place:

o   Friday night, July 3^rd until Saturday morning , July 4^th

o   Saturday night, July 4^th until Sunday morning, July 5^th

o   Sunday night, July 5^th until Monday morning, July 6^th (if necessary).

• Residents are advised that this construction work will generate noise, including cutting rail, truck / motor sounds, generator, turnout installation, switch installation, and resurfacing of the track

Cut in West switch + New Switch Machine Installation (on Hydro One end)

• This work must take place during the night when there are no trains operating on the tracks.
• Construction work will take place starting evening of Friday, July 17^th until Saturday morning, July 18^th. Work will resume Saturday night, July 18^th, and continue until Sunday morning, July 19^th.
• Residents are advised that this construction work will generate significant noise, including cutting rail, truck / motor sounds, generator, turnout installation, switch installation, and resurfacing of the track.

Signal Tests (night shift)

• Construction work will take place starting evening of Friday, August 7^th until Saturday morning, August 8^th. Work will resume Saturday night, August 8^th, and continue until Sunday morning, August 9^th.
• This work will include testing signals (wiring, testing signal sequences, circuitry tests, etc.) and should not generate significant noise.

Once again, all of these estimated dates remain tentative and subject to revision, change and/or adjustment, if required. Unpredictable constraints that can affect the construction schedule include but are not limited to weather conditions, technical problems and machinery problems.

For all of the night work that will take place, VIA Rail Canada’s contractor – Sersa Total Track – has submitted a noise by-law exemption to the City of Ottawa.

VIA Rail Canada commits to keeping residents informed of the progress of this work and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.

En raison de circonstances indépendantes de notre volonté, l’horaire des travaux de nuit prévu pour le projet de construction de voie d’évitement de Wass a été révisé comme suit :

Travaux sur la voie et les signaux – Horaire des travaux de nuit

Coupe  de l’aiguillage à l’est + installation du nouveau système d’aiguillage (du côté de Fielding Drive)

• Ces travaux doivent avoir lieu pendant la nuit lorsqu’aucun train n’utilise la voie.
• Les travaux de construction auront lieu à partir de :

o   La soirée du vendredi 3 juillet jusqu’au samedi matin, 4 juillet

o   La soirée du samedi 4 juillet jusqu’au dimanche matin, 5 juillet

o   La soirée du dimanche 5 juillet jusqu’au lundi matin, 6 juillet (si nécessaire).

• Les résidents sont informés que ces travaux généreront du bruit (coupe des rails, camions / moteurs, générateurs, installation du branchement, l’installation de l’aiguillage, et surfaçage de la voie).

Coupe de l’aiguillage à l’ouest + installation du nouveau système d’aiguillage (du côté de Hydro One)

• Ces travaux doivent avoir lieu pendant la nuit lorsqu’aucun train n’utilise la voie.
• Les travaux auront lieu à partir de la soirée du vendredi 17 juillet jusqu’au samedi matin 18 juillet.
• Les travaux reprendront le samedi soir 18 juillet et se poursuivront jusqu’au dimanche matin 19 juillet.
• La préparation pour les travaux de nuit devrait débuter autour de 20 h. Lorsque le dernier train de la journée aura circulé sur la voie, autour de 23 h, la coupe des rails débutera. Ces travaux généreront du bruit (coupe des rails, camions / moteurs, générateurs, installation du branchement, l’installation de l’aiguillage, et surfaçage de la voie).

Tests de signalisation (de nuit)

• Les travaux auront lieu à partir de la soirée du vendredi 7 août jusqu’au samedi matin 8 août. Les travaux reprendront le samedi soir 8 août et se poursuivront jusqu’au dimanche matin 9 août.
• Ces travaux comprendront des tests de signalisation (câblage, tests de séquences des signaux, tests de circuits, etc.) et ne doivent pas engendrer de bruit important.

Une fois de plus, ces dates estimées demeurent provisoires et sujettes à révision,  modification et / ou d’ajustement, si nécessaire. Certaines contraintes imprévisibles peuvent avoir une incidence sur l’horaire des travaux (conditions climatiques, problèmes techniques et problèmes de machinerie).

Pour tous les travaux de nuit qui auront lieu, l’entrepreneur de VIA Rail Canada – Sersa Total Track – a présenté à la Ville d’Ottawa une exemption au règlement sur le bruit.
