SUMMARY:COMMEMORATION OF THE EVENTS OF OCTOBER 2014
DESCRIPTION:Gun salute and RCAF CF-18 Hornet Flyby over Parliament Hill\nThe Government of Canada will hold a ceremony at the National War Memorial on October 22\, 2015\, at 11 a.m.\, to commemorate the assault on Parliament Hill one year ago. \nThe event will also honour the sacrifices of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo\, and the bravery of the first responders. \nMembers of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony. \nGun Salute\nLocal Army Reserve unit\, 30th Field Artillery Regiment\, Royal Canadian Artillery\, will fire a 21-Gun salute as part of the commemoration of the event. Four C3 Howitzers will be positioned near the east block of Parliament Hill and the public should expect to hear the guns firing at 11 a.m. with ten-second intervals for approximately three minutes. \nCF-18 Hornet Flyby\nAs part of the ceremony\, the Royal Canadian Air Force will conduct a CF-18 Hornet flyby over the National War Memorial which is expected to occur at approximately 11:20 a.m.\nThe aircraft will fly at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above ground level along the route before resuming a higher altitude for their return trip to base. Flybys by RCAF aircraft are conducted in support of special events and are carefully planned and controlled to ensure public safety at all times. \nRoad Closures\nRoads around the National War Memorial will be closed before and during the ceremony.  \nThe commemorative ceremony at the National War Memorial will result in numerous traffic impacts on downtown streets on Thursday\, October 22 between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes when travelling downtown during this time.  \n\nElgin Street between Albert Street and Wellington Street will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nWellington Street\, eastbound\, will be closed between Mackenzie Avenue and O’Connor Street from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nWellington Street\, westbound\, will be closed between Sussex Drive and Metcalfe Street from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \nQueen Street between O’Connor Street and Elgin Street will be open to local traffic only from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. \n\nOC Transpo Routes 1\, 2\, 4\, 7\, 9\, 12\, 14\, 18\, and certain trips on Route 16 will be detoured during this period.
