SUMMARY:Merivale Road North CDP Meeting #2
DESCRIPTION:City of Ottawa \nMerivale Road (North) Community Design Plan \nInformation Session Number 2 \nThursday\, October 5\, 2017\n6:30 to 9:00 p.m. (drop-in anytime)\nAlexander Community Centre\n960 Silver Street \nYou are invited to find out more about the Merivale Road (North) Community Design Plan (CDP) study. The outcomes of the CDP will affect how the northern end of Merivale Road will look and function in the future. The CDP study area affects land adjacent to Merivale Road between Caldwell Avenue and Carling Avenue.  The study generally includes creating guidelines for land use and urban design\, review and possible changes to the current zoning of land on select properties (see notice below)\, consideration of a range of new economic development incentives and creation of a “complete street” design to improve walking\, cycling and streetscape in the future. \nAt the session\, city staff will have information available to answer your questions on the preliminary recommendations for the Community Design Plan. If you are unable to attend the session\, you may review the information on the city’s website and provide your comments online. \nAccessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. If you require special accommodation\, please call or email the planner identified below before September 29\, 2017. \nNeed more information? \nGo to the city’s website at ottawa.ca/imaginemerivaleroadnorth or\, contact the planner listed in the Notice of Proposed Zoning By-law Amendments below: \nNotice of Proposed Zoning By-Law Amendments \nIn accordance with Section 34(10.7)(a) of the Planning Act and Section 3.(1) of Ontario Regulation 545/06\, notice is hereby provided that a Zoning By-law Amendment proposal has been initiated by the Planning\, Infrastructure and Economic Development Department of the City of Ottawa. \nLAND SUBJECT TO THE PROPOSAL \nThe Zoning By-Law Amendment proposal generally affects properties adjacent to Merivale Road between Caldwell Avenue and Carling Avenue including select properties on Merivale Road\, Kirkwood Avenue\, Chatelain Avenue\, Shillington Avenue\, Thames Street\, Laperriere Avenue\, Leaside Avenue and Anna Avenue. \nPURPOSE AND EFFECT OF THE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS \nThe purpose of the proposed Zoning By-law Amendments (ZBLA) is to implement the land use and urban design components of the proposed new Merivale Road (North) Community Design Plan (CDP).  The CDP is being brought forward for approval by Planning Committee and Council at the same time as the proposed ZBLA.  The main effects of the proposed ZBLA are to rezone select properties from existing residential and institutional zones to the Traditional Mainstreet (TM) zone\, generally with exceptions that continue to permit uses from the existing zones but that in certain locations permit new non-residential uses under the TM zone only if properties are assembled and any new development fronts on Merivale Road\, and to correct anomalies where the boundaries between different zones do not follow adjacent property lines.\n \nFURTHER INFORMATION \nFor more information about this matter\, including information about preserving your appeal rights\, contact: \nChris Brouwer\, Planner\nPlanning\, Infrastructure and Economic Development Department \nCity of Ottawa\n110 Laurier Avenue West\nOttawa\, Ontario  K1P 1J1\nTel: 613-580-2424\, ext. 27813 \nFax: 613-580-2459\nE-mail:Chris.Brouwer@ottawa.ca.\nAdditional information can also be obtained through Ottawa.ca/devapps and input File Number D02-02-17-0017 in the “Search” criteria. \nSUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS \nThe City of Ottawa would like to receive any comments concerning the proposed amendments. Please forward comments to the above-noted planner via mail\, telephone\, facsimile or e-mail by Friday\, October 20\, 2017. Comments received will be considered in the evaluation of the proposal. \nDated at Ottawa this 21st day of September\, 2017.
