SUMMARY:Ottawa4FortMac Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:As you may know\, in a city-wide evacuation\, wildfires have displaced tens of thousands of residents of Fort McMurray\, Alberta\, including nearby communities. \n#Ottawa4FortMac is a fundraiser hosted by Ottawa Senators player Chris Phillips and Mayor Jim Watson. It will take place from 6:30PM to 10:00PM on Wednesday June 8\, ‎Aberdeen Pavilion\, at Lansdowne Park. \nThis “western roundup” themed event will feature live music by Ottawa-born Country sensation Kira Isabella\, Ottawa Country group River Town Saints and Country brother duo The Abrams\, as well as Jordan McIntosh and Meghan Patrick. Enjoy a dinner catered by local pizzerias\, craft beer sampling provided by local breweries and western-themed activities. \nTickets for the Fort McMurray fundraising event are now on sale\, at a cost of $ 80 each.  \nTickets are in limited quantities and are available for purchase online here\, or by cash payment at Big Rig Brewery locations and at the Mayor’s office at City Hall. SUMMARY:Capital Ukrainian Festival
DESCRIPTION:Ottawa Celebrates 125th Anniversary of Ukrainian Immigration to Canada\nThis year marks a historical milestone for Ukrainian-Canadians – the 125th Anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada. There are over 1.3 million Canadians of Ukrainian descent\, of those\, 25\,000 live in Ottawa. The Capital Ukrainian Festival has four days of memorable activities to celebrate the occasion. \nOn Thursday\, July 21\, 2016\, you can explore Ukrainian-Canadian culture and history with a stellar series of award-winning films. On Friday\, July 22\, 2016\, join us on the catwalk where we will showcase art and fashion. To end the evening\, you can dance the night away under the stars at the DJ dance party.\nOn Saturday\, July 23\, 2016\, take the opportunity to experience the cultural richness of all that is Ukrainian! Our line-up of performers will be diverse and unforgettable\, promising something for all tastes and all audiences. Sunday’s program on July 24\, 2016 brings the Festival to a new level with late afternoon Operatic performances\, and the One World show where we invite other cultures and nationalities to celebrate with us on stage. \nYou will also experience traditional and modern Ukrainian culture as you step into the Yarmarok\, the Ukrainian word for marketplace\, where Ukrainians have traditionally gathered to buy and sell goods\, exchange news and ideas\, and share gossip. \nAnd of course what would a Festival be without food? This is the weekend when you stock up on traditional Ukrainian food: varenyky (perogies)\, cabbage rolls\, borshch and other culinary favorites. Visitors to the Beer Gardens can also enjoy an ice cold Lvivske 1715 — premium Beer from the oldest still-functioning brewery in Eastern Europe. \nThe 2016 festival experience will provide a variety of activities each day\, with something for everyone: workshops\, demonstrations\, children’s activities\, and even fireworks on Saturday night. SUMMARY:Capital Ukrainian Festival - Free Film Night
DESCRIPTION:The Capital Ukrainian Festival Kicks off its 4-Day Festival with a Free Evening of Films \nCircle Thursday\, July 21\, 2016 for a free evening of award winning films showcasing Ukrainian-Canadian culture and history.  Designed to appeal to a variety of audiences\, genres include: comedy\, sports\, politics and drama. \nIn “Laughter in my Soul” (5:30pm)\, the cartoon character\, “Shteef Tabachniuk\, takes us through the first wave of Ukrainian immigration to western Canada. A film by award-winning director and producer\, Halya Kuchmij\, this film promises laughter for the entire family. \nAttention all hockey fans!  Danny Schur takes us on a journey through the life and accomplishments of “the world’s greatest goalie” – Ukrainian-Canadian Terry Sawchuk\, in “Made in Winnipeg: The Terry Sawchuk Origin Story” (6:30pm).  This decorated player revolutionized goalkeeping\, serving as an inspiration for all future goalies\, with his legendary accomplishments immortalized in the Hockey Hall of Fame. A “must-see” for hockey fans of all ages! \n“A Man for All Canadians” (7:00 pm) features the life and work of The Right Honourable Raymond Hnatyshyn\, the 24th Governor General of Canada\, as seen through the eyes of his family and friends\, including former prime ministers Joe Clark\, Brian Mulroney\, and Canadian broadcaster Peter Mansbridge.
