DESCRIPTION:As you may know\, in a city-wide evacuation\, wildfires have displaced tens of thousands of residents of Fort McMurray\, Alberta\, including nearby communities. \n#Ottawa4FortMac is a fundraiser hosted by Ottawa Senators player Chris Phillips and Mayor Jim Watson. It will take place from 6:30PM to 10:00PM on Wednesday June 8\, ‎Aberdeen Pavilion\, at Lansdowne Park.  \nThis “western roundup” themed event will feature live music by Ottawa-born Country sensation Kira Isabella\, Ottawa Country group River Town Saints and Country brother duo The Abrams\, as well as Jordan McIntosh and Meghan Patrick. Enjoy a dinner catered by local pizzerias\, craft beer sampling provided by local breweries and western-themed activities. \nTickets for the Fort McMurray fundraising event are now on sale\, at a cost of $ 80 each.  \nTickets are in limited quantities and are available for purchase online here\, or by cash payment at Big Rig Brewery locations and at the Mayor’s office at City Hall. Donations made by May 31 will be matched by the Government of Canada.  \nThis natural disaster may become the costliest in Canadian history\, but the impact on the lives of our fellow Canadians in Fort McMurray is much greater.  \nIt is crucial that residents of Ottawa unite to assist those who have been affected by this tragedy.   \nPlease consider supporting the residents of Fort McMurray as they rebuild their lives and their community\, by attending #Ottawa4FortMac or volunteering at the event. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Capital Ukrainian Festival Kicks off its 4-Day Festival with a Free Evening of Films \nCircle Thursday\, July 21\, 2016 for a free evening of award winning films showcasing Ukrainian-Canadian culture and history.  Designed to appeal to a variety of audiences\, genres include: comedy\, sports\, politics and drama. \nIn “Laughter in my Soul” (5:30pm)\, the cartoon character\, “Shteef Tabachniuk\, takes us through the first wave of Ukrainian immigration to western Canada. A film by award-winning director and producer\, Halya Kuchmij\, this film promises laughter for the entire family. \nAttention all hockey fans!  Danny Schur takes us on a journey through the life and accomplishments of “the world’s greatest goalie” – Ukrainian-Canadian Terry Sawchuk\, in “Made in Winnipeg: The Terry Sawchuk Origin Story” (6:30pm).  This decorated player revolutionized goalkeeping\, serving as an inspiration for all future goalies\, with his legendary accomplishments immortalized in the Hockey Hall of Fame. A “must-see” for hockey fans of all ages! \n“A Man for All Canadians” (7:00 pm) features the life and work of The Right Honourable Raymond Hnatyshyn\, the 24th Governor General of Canada\, as seen through the eyes of his family and friends\, including former prime ministers Joe Clark\, Brian Mulroney\, and Canadian broadcaster Peter Mansbridge. Executive producer\, Iryna Korpan\, provides an intimate look into the life and accomplishments of this iconic Canadian. \nThe evening ends with Ukraine’s 2014 Academy Award entry for Best Foreign Language Film\, “The Guide” (8:30pm). In this critically acclaimed drama\, viewers journey with a young boy from the 1930s whose father was killed by the Soviets for obtaining documents about the repressions.  Befriended by a blind Ukrainian folk minstrel (kobzar)\, the young boy learns to survive his early tragedies through the magical and healing powers of storytelling and folklore. Their journey builds to a chillingly spectacular conclusion\, challenging viewers to examine whether the blind kobzar may see the world with greater clarity than those with perfect vision. \nAll films will be shown on a large LED screen under a tent on Festival Grounds (952 Green Valley Crescent\, Ottawa\, ON).  Food\, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. DESCRIPTION:This fall\, like last year\, the HCCO is partnering with the South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre (SEOCHC)\, the Riverside Park Community and Recreation Association (RPCRA) and the City of Ottawa’s Hunt Club-Riverside Park Community Centre to host … our Community Fall Festival. \nThis event will be held on Saturday\, September 10th (rain or shine) indoors and/or outdoors at the Hunt Club-Riverside Park Community Centre (3320 Paul Anka Drive at the corner of McCarthy Rd) from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This year’s festival theme is “Meet your neighbours\, explore your community.” \nAll food items\, refreshments and activities will be offered to participating families for FREE.   We are hoping\, once again\, to attract about 300 participants.  The intent of this festival is to provide food\, fun activities\, information and conversation for the citizens in our community.  Along with a number of information kiosks\, some of the other activities will include: \nFor the children  … \n\na bouncy castle\na scavenger hunt\nface painting\n\nFor adults and children\,  … \n\na guided walk through McCarthy Woods with amateur tree expert Owen Clarkin at 11:15am\ncartooning demonstration\na step dancing performance\nArabic singing group\n‘Joyful Songsters’ senior singers performance\na plant exchange\n\nThe special dignitary guests invited\, include Councillor Riley Brockington\, Mayor Jim Watson\, MPP John Fraser and MP David McGuinty.  Leslie McDiarmid\, Executive Director of SEOCHC will be emceeing our event. \nWe hope you can join us! \n
