DESCRIPTION:The City will be hosting our 15th Wildlife Speaker Series event on the evening of February 6\, at Ottawa City Hall.  The topic of this event\, Living with Coyotes\, may be of interest to you  The guest speaker will be Dr. Stan Gehrt from The Ohio State University.  He was the presenter at the city’s very first Wildlife Speaker Series event in February 2014\, giving residents a fascinating look into how coyotes can coexist with people in a variety of urban and suburban settings. DESCRIPTION:Residents are invited to a Public Information Session to learn more about the City’s update to the Official Plan (OP) and Transportation Master Plan (TMP). The session will take place on Wednesday\, February 12 at 7:00pm in the Kathy Ablett Room at the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre\, 3320 Paul Anka Drive. \nThis term of council\, the City of Ottawa will be undertaking the review of the Official Plan and Transportation Master Plan documents. The OP provides the policy framework which will guide the city’s physical development into the future\, while the TMP is the City’s blueprint for planning\, developing and operating its walking\, cycling\, transit and road networks over the next two decades. \n

SUMMARY:Kathy Ablett Room Commemorative Naming
DESCRIPTION:I am pleased to invite you to attend the unveiling of the Kathy Ablett Room in the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre on Thursday February 13 at 5:30pm. \nThis will be a great day with members of the Ottawa Catholic School Board\, staff and Trustees\, local community leaders\, members of the Ablett Family\, Mayor Watson and myself. \nLight refreshments to follow the ceremony. \n  \nKathy Ablett (Ward 16 – River) \nIn recognition of her exceptional contribution to the Catholic School Board and Hunt Club Community\, the City of Ottawa received a proposal to name the seniors room in the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre\, the Kathy Ablett Room. Kathy Ablett began her professional life as a registered nurse in a family practice office in the Riverside Mall on Ridgewood Avenue. \nWhile her children attended Holy Family School\, Kathy organized parent-teacher activities\, such as dances and fairs. Her increasing involvement in Board-related activities ultimately led to her election as a Catholic School Board Trustee\, where she served for 27 years. Mrs. Ablett was also an active member in her community\, serving as the President of the Hunt Club Community Association\, Vice-Chair of the Ottawa Public Library Board\, and President of the Family Practice Nurses Group. In 2009\, Trustee Ablett was honoured with the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association Award of Merit for her exceptional service to Catholic Education. \nShe received the Success by Six award from United Way Ottawa\, in recognition of her efforts to provide education opportunities for young children. This commemorative naming proposal seeks to recognize Kathy Ablett’s exceptional service and dedication to the Catholic School Board and Hunt Club community. \nMrs. Ablett passed away in May 2018.
