River Ward Community Update
Dear friends and neighbours of River Ward,
What comes to mind when you think about the month of October: colourful leaves, crisp air, the first frost, turkeys, pumpkins, ghosts and goblins, I trust the next 31 days will be enjoyable for you and your family.
I am grateful for the on-going work fighting the pandemic all the while trying to get our great City back on its feet. If you, a friend or family member remain unvaccinated however are interested in acquiring your dose but have questions that you need answers to, please reach out to me and I will do what I can to support you.
There are significant meetings happening this month at City Hall. Today, the Planning Committee and sub-Committee of Built Heritage meet to review the master site plan of the new Ottawa Hospital at the corner of Carling/Preston/Prince of Wales. Later this month, starting on October 14, the joint Planning Committee and Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee will meet to debate the new Official Plan. This meeting is expected to run 3 days.
The Riverside Park Community Association (Oct 6) hosts their Annual General Meeting this week.
Residents of Carlington North are invited to a public information session on the Veterans’ Homes study that is currently underway. Come and learn more on October 7, see below for more details.
Finally, I will never relent on your behalf when it comes to our $2.1 billion Confederation Line LRT system. I strongly support public transit in our city, including LRT, but enough is enough. I have consistently strived for information, public transparency and accountability – all are in short supply. The recent announcement of the hiring of our new General Manager (Ms Renée Amilcar) is welcome news for OC Transpo and I look forward to her arrival mid-month.
