Message from Via Rail:
This past weekend, the commissioning of the new siding took place at Wass (Riverside Park area) and new signal systems were installed and tested. As a result of the tests, there are some minor corrective works that will be taking place this week during the day and occasionally during the night (as required). I have outlined the works below and the days we anticipate these will take place. While most of the work consists of welding repairs, we will also be running an ultrasonic test car (Sperry car) on the entire Beachburg subdivision (including the Wass area) starting Wednesday night. This test is designed to detect transverse fissures and other defects in the rail, something which is done several times per year to ensure the safety of the rail is maintained. The test itself is very quiet and nobody will notice it, but if a rail defect is found, the crew will address those early in the morning following the test. We do not expect many defects in the Ottawa area, but we wanted to bring this to your attention in case you receive any questions.
Here is a breakdown of the upcoming works:
September 1: Welding at the West Switch and adjust the existing welds on the track.
September 2: Ultrasonic test; Welding at the East Switch
September 3: Ultrasonic test; Welding at the East Switch and adjust the existing welds on the track.
September 4: Welding at the WASS siding
