12 Jul Upcoming Traffic Impacts from 417 Widening Project
The following update has been provided by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in regards to upcoming traffic impacts due to their current construction project to widen the 417 from Maitland Avenue to Island Park Drive.
There will be a series of closures and ramp opening taking place in the coming weeks as part of their 417 widening project.
Highway 417 Carling/Kirkwood Eastbound Off-Ramp, which is currently closed, will be open by 6:00am on Thursday July 26th. This will ensure that the ramp is functional for the detour of Highway 417 required to facilitate the demolition of the Harmer Avenue pedestrian structure.
Merivale Road will be closed between Carling Avenue and Island Park Drive from 8pm, Wednesday August 1st to 3am, Thursday, August 2, 2018 [NEW DATES]. Static signs are in place advising motorists of the upcoming closure and the contractor will be sending out notification to impacted agencies shortly. A detour route will be posted to advise motorists of alternate routes. This closure is required for work being performed on the Merivale Road 417 underpass.
The Highway 417 detour for the Harmer Avenue Pedestrian Bridge is currently scheduled for July 28 & 29. The current pedestrian bridge is being removed until it can be rebuilt and replaced by the Ministry of Transportation.
Highway 417 will be closed in both directions from Bronson Avenue to Carling Avenue. During the work, the following eastbound on-ramps will be closed: Carling, Parkdale and Maitland. The following westbound on-ramps will be closed: Catherine, Rochester, Parkdale, Lyon and O’Connor.
The public is advised to plan all trips well in advance as significant delays are expected during the closure. There are many other transportation options including OC Transpo, carpooling and other alternative forms of transportation to get around the city while this closure is in place.
The Carling Avenue to Highway 417 Westbound on-ramp will be closed for a minimum period of 9 weeks. This is currently scheduled to commence on Monday, August 13 until October 15 [NEW DATES]. Static signs will be erected advising motorists of the closure and a detour will be put in place advising motorists of alternate routes to access Highway 417 Westbound . The detour will send traffic to Merivale Road to access the westbound 417.
