04 May Committee hears about Civic Campus plans from The Ottawa Hospital
The City’s Finance and Economic Development Committee today received a presentation from the Ottawa Hospital outlining development plans for its new Civic Campus.
The Ottawa Hospital has completed the next stage of planning for the campus and plans to open in 2028 as one of the largest and most advanced hospitals in Canada. The facility will serve Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Nunavut.
The Ottawa Hospital has submitted stage two of the Capital Planning Process to the Ontario Ministry of Health for development of the new campus. As part of the follow-up to that submission, The Ottawa Hospital presented to the Committee today, sharing the proposed design. The Ottawa Hospital will also organize consultations in the coming months to give the public opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback on the proposal.
The new campus will house the most advanced trauma centre in Ottawa. The main hospital building, including the emergency department and the inpatient and outpatient clinics, will sit atop the escarpment across from Dow’s Lake. Additional clinic space, medical offices, research and education buildings and a parking garage will be located on the lower portion of the site, connected to nearby Dow’s Lake Station.
The project is estimated to cost $2.8 billion. Construction of the project will help drive the regional economy, creating an estimated 20,000 jobs along with research and training opportunities and health investments. Once open, it will offer world class health care in Eastern Ontario that will attract health care providers, researchers and students from around the world.

Aujourd’hui, L’Hôpital d’Ottawa a présenté au Comité des finances et du développement économique de la Ville les plans d’aménagement de son nouveau campus Civic.
L’Hôpital d’Ottawa a franchi une nouvelle étape dans la planification du campus, dont l’ouverture est prévue pour 2028. L’établissement deviendra alors l’un des plus grands hôpitaux de pointe au Canada et offrira ses services aux populations d’Ottawa, de l’est de l’Ontario, de l’ouest du Québec et du Nunavut.
L’Hôpital d’Ottawa a présenté au ministère de la Santé de l’Ontario la deuxième phase du processus de planification des immobilisations en vue de l’aménagement du nouveau campus. Dans le cadre du suivi relatif à cette soumission, L’Hôpital d’Ottawa a présenté aujourd’hui au Comité la conception proposée. L’organisation tiendra également des consultations dans les prochains mois afin de donner aux membres du public l’occasion de poser des questions et de faire part de leurs commentaires sur la proposition.
Le nouveau campus accueillera le centre de traumatologie le plus moderne d’Ottawa. Le bâtiment principal de l’hôpital, qui hébergera le service des urgences, les unités de soins et les services de consultation externe, sera situé au sommet de l’escarpement en face du lac Dow. La partie inférieure du terrain sera réservée à d’autres locaux cliniques, à des bureaux de médecin, à des édifices d’enseignement et de recherche et à un stationnement à étages, le tout étant relié à la station Lac Dow.
Le coût du projet est estimé à 2,8 milliards de dollars. Le projet stimulera l’économie de la région en générant quelque 20 000 nouveaux emplois, des possibilités de recherche et de formation et des investissements dans la santé. Une fois ouvert, l’hôpital créera dans l’Est ontarien un système de santé de calibre mondial qui attirera des fournisseurs de soins, des chercheurs et des étudiants de partout sur la planète.
