Who: Lischer Construction Inc. will be performing the work for the City of Ottawa.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be proceeding with this construction to rehabilitate the Walkley Road Bridge over Southeast Transitway.

Where: The construction will take place at the Walkley Road Bridge over Southeast Transitway.

What: Work will involve the rehabilitation of the Walkley Road bridge over Southeast Transitway, replacement of the access link slab to transitway towers on the south side of Walkley Road, installation of the new concrete columns under the new access link slabs, and rehabilitation of Walkley Road bridge deck.

When: The work is planned to begin in late June 2016 and finish by the end of October 2016.

The City of Ottawa Noise By-law (2004-253) allows construction activity to occur weekdays between 7am and 10pm.  Night work is expected.  Advance notice of night work will be provided to the community by updates on the City website and by Notice to those adjacent to the work.

Accessibility

Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact the Contractor’s Representative or the City’s Project Manager noted below.

Impact on vehicle traffic and pedestrains

For Walkley Road, there will be some lane closures during the construction of bridge deck rehabilitation. At least one eastbound and one westbound lane will be maintained at all times. For Southeast Transitway, Short duration closures will be required in order to permit repairs to the bridge desk soffit and construction of new concrete columns. At least one northbound and one southbound lane will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian access on Walkley Road and the Southeast Transitway level will be maintained. The two transit towers on the south side of Walkley Road will be closed during the construction.

Construction disruptions

Lischer Construction Inc. is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is entirely completed in 2016. They will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the operation of the work, such as increased traffic, noise, dust and vibration.  We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation.

You may feel vibrations at your home or business due to the use of the heavy equipment needed to complete this work.  This is quite common and not usually a problem.
