Miscellaneous Storm Drainage and Network Improvements – West End
Contract No. ISD15-2080
The City of Ottawa will undertake construction work in your neighbourhood. This work is being conducted to address drainage issues in your area.
Who: The Contractor, Goldie Mohr Limited, will be performing the construction work for the City of Ottawa.
Why: This work is required to address ponding in the road side ditch near 89 Dorothea Drive.
What: Work will involve the installation of a new culvert in front of 93 and 95 Dorothea Drive. A catch basin will be installed in front of 95 Dorothea Drive. The ditch will be re-graded and reshaped to direct flow to the new culvert. Impacted areas will be reinstated.
When: The work is tentatively planned to begin in late September 2016. Final landscaping and reinstatement will be completed by early October 2016.
The City of Ottawa Noise By-law (2004-253) allows construction activity to occur weekdays between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. On Saturdays, work is permitted between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. while Sunday and Statutory Holiday work is allowed between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. The contractor has advised the City that usual construction hours will be weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. This will be modified as needed, for example if weather affects the schedule, or if conditions change. Please check the City website for updates to the status of this project.
Where: Work will occur at the following locations:
- 89 Dorothea Drive
- 93 Dorothea Drive
- 95 Dorothea Drive
Every effort is being made to reduce the duration of the construction impacts in your community.
Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact the On-Site Inspector or the Contractor’s representative.
On-Street Parking and Traffic
Temporary lane reductions along Dorothea Drive may be required. No changes to on-street parking policies are anticipated. The Contractor is required to ensure that homeowners have access to their properties. In the event that access to your driveway is restricted due to construction activities, a temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) will be issued by the On-Site Inspector to authorize on-street parking within a few blocks of your residence.
Goldie Mohr Limited is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is entirely complete in 2016. They will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the operation of the work, such as delays when travelling through the construction zone, noise, dust and vibration. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation.
Impact on the Right-of-Way and Adjacent Private Properties
You may feel vibrations at your home or business due to the use of the heavy equipment needed to complete this work. This is quite common and not usually a problem.
Goldie Mohr Limited is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until the construction project is entirely completed.
The Contractor is required by the City to carry liability insurance before any work may proceed. You may be asked by the Contractor’s insurance agent for permission to survey your property before the work commences, as Contractors typically conduct pre-construction inspections to document existing conditions for their own purposes. It is to your benefit to allow the inspection to be conducted on your property, as it may assist with establishing the impact, if any, that construction has had at your property after the work is complete. In addition, you may wish to complete your own survey of pre-construction conditions on your property. Your survey should include photographs.
To obtain any additional information on this project, please contact the City’s Project Manager. For any emergency outside normal working hours on weekdays and weekends, please call the City at 3-1-1.
