Elgin Street renewal project starts major construction on Monday, January 7

Starting Monday, January 7, Elgin Street will be closed to traffic from Somerset Street to Catherine Street.  Additionally, there will be traffic impacts on Elgin Street between Laurier Avenue and Somerset Street:

  • One southbound lane will remain open along Elgin Street from Laurier Avenue to Somerset Street
  • The northbound lane on Elgin Street will be closed from Somerset Street to Nepean Street
  • The exit lane from the City Hall parking garage to Elgin Street will be open. Vehicles will be able to access Elgin Street as usual from Nepean Street

Businesses remain open on Elgin Street during construction and pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained at all times on both sides of Elgin Street.

A number of detours will be in place for traffic, transit and cyclists. Visit ottawa.ca for details.

Access to the City Hall parking garage remains open at all times during construction.

The Laurier Avenue ramp remains open and there are no changes. The Elgin Street ramp also remains open with some modifications to how you can access it.  If you are travelling from the west or south ends of the City, you are encouraged to use the Metcalfe Street detour, then turn right onto Nepean Street and continue straight to enter the underground parking.

When exiting the City Hall parking garage onto Elgin Street, vehicles will be permitted to turn both left and right and continue on their desired routes.
