COMMEMORATION OF THE EVENTS OF OCTOBER 2014

Gun salute and RCAF CF-18 Hornet Flyby over Parliament Hill
The Government of Canada will hold a ceremony at the National War Memorial on October 22, 2015, at 11 a.m., to commemorate the assault on Parliament Hill one year ago.

The event will also honour the sacrifices of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, and the bravery of the first responders.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony.

Gun Salute
Local Army Reserve unit, 30th Field Artillery Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, will fire a 21-Gun salute as part of the commemoration of the event. Four C3 Howitzers will be positioned near the east block of Parliament Hill and the public should expect to hear the guns firing at 11 a.m. with ten-second intervals for approximately three minutes.

CF-18 Hornet Flyby
As part of the ceremony, the Royal Canadian Air Force will conduct a CF-18 Hornet flyby over the National War Memorial which is expected to occur at approximately 11:20 a.m.
The aircraft will fly at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above ground level along the route before resuming a higher altitude for their return trip to base. Flybys by RCAF aircraft are conducted in support of special events and are carefully planned and controlled to ensure public safety at all times.

Road Closures
Roads around the National War Memorial will be closed before and during the ceremony.

The commemorative ceremony at the National War Memorial will result in numerous traffic impacts on downtown streets on Thursday, October 22 between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes when travelling downtown during this time. 

  • Elgin Street between Albert Street and Wellington Street will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
  • Wellington Street, eastbound, will be closed between Mackenzie Avenue and O’Connor Street from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
  • Wellington Street, westbound, will be closed between Sussex Drive and Metcalfe Street from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
  • Queen Street between O’Connor Street and Elgin Street will be open to local traffic only from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

OC Transpo Routes 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 14, 18, and certain trips on Route 16 will be detoured during this period. For further information, please visit octranspo.com.
