30 Oct Hogs Back Dam and Fixed Bridge Rehabilitation
Rideau Canal National Historic Site
Ottawa (Ontario), October 23, 2019 –Following the conclusion of the 2019 navigation season on the Rideau Canal National Historic Site, Parks Canada would like to inform the public that the first phase of the Hogs Back Dam and Fixed Bridge rehabilitation project has now resumed. This first phase of the project was paused for the navigational season, to help minimize impacts to boaters and visitors of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This first phase of work entails repairs to the west upstream retaining wall, concrete rehabilitation on both the west abutment and west face of pier no. 2, as well as an extension of that pier.
Work on this portion of the project requires a construction zone in the park area next to the west bridge abutment of the Hogs Back Fixed Bridge, as well as in the Parks Canada parking lot east of the river. As a result, vehicular and pedestrian traffic can expect intermittent delays as the contractor migrates between locations on Hogs Back Road.
This work is part of the largest infrastructure plan in the history of Parks Canada.
