22 Dec OC Transpo’s new EquiFare launches on January 1
OC Transpo will introduce the new EquiFare, an affordable single-fare ride option for low-income OC Transpo customers, for use beginning on January 1, 2018.
At a cost of $1.75 per single-fare ride, the new EquiFare was approved by City Council on December 13.
The EquiFare complements the EquiPass discounted monthly pass, which launched in March 2017. While the EquiPass benefits those who use OC Transpo services on a daily or regular basis, the EquiFare is the best option for those who use public transit less frequently.
Similar to the EquiPass, the EquiFare will be available to City of Ottawa residents whose household income falls below the low-income cut-off threshold, as set annually by Statistics Canada.
Current EquiPass holders are already approved for the new EquiFare single-fare option and do not need to do anything further to access the product. New customers must apply and be approved prior to use. Applications for the EquiPass/EquiFare program can be downloaded from octranspo.com or picked up in person at OC Transpo’s Customer Service Centres (Rideau Centre, Lincoln Fields, Place d’Orléans and St-Laurent) and participating City of Ottawa and community partner locations. For a complete listing of locations, please visit octranspo.com.
The EquiPass and EquiFare are only available for use by registered users on Presto or ParaPay. All new EquiPass or EquiFare customers will have the $6 Presto card fee covered by the City of Ottawa. All existing EquiPass holders will receive a $6 credit on their account to cover the one-time Presto card fee they originally paid when purchasing their pass.
