River Ward Community Update
Dear friends and neighbours of River Ward,
December has always been a special month for me. The return of snow, outdoor coloured lights, social gatherings and family functions among other happy occasions. It is, however, not going to be the same this year as we continue to co-exist with COVID.
I have three matters to raise with you.
- Please reach out to people in your immediate neighbourhood who may be alone, may be struggling to make ends meet, may simply need a friendly face to say hello, how are you doing?
- If you are buying gifts this month, please remember our small business owners in River Ward and across Ottawa. They need our support like never before. Walmart will survive this pandemic, small businesses may not.
- Finally, if you have the financial means, please consider supporting local organizations like the Ottawa Food Bank, Caldwell Family Centre and The Mission (as examples).
We will see a vaccine roll-out in 2021 which will bring a new sense of safety to our most vulnerable and greater stability to other facets of our lives. The City of Ottawa has created a task force to specifically review and implement the distribution of the vaccine. We will be ready.
May I take this opportunity to wish those of you celebrating, a Merry Christmas – Joyeux Noël – Buon Natale and all the best in the new year.
