01 Sep River Ward E-Newsletter, September 1, 2025 | Bulletin électronique du Quartier Rivière, 1 septembre 2025
Dear Friends and Neighbours!
Many students went back to school last week and the majority will return tomorrow. Welcome back to all returning and new students. I trust you will have an enjoyable time this year.
To all motorists, please, I implore you, drive carefully in our residential communities and be mindful of our most vulnerable neighbours as they travel to and from school.
In addition to being mindful of your speed, obey school bus signals. Always stop in both directions on roads without a median when a school bus is stopped with flashing lights. Fines for failing to stop range from $400 to $2,000 and carry six demerit points.
Be cautious at pedestrian crossings—understand how they work and respect them when in use.
To our families with young pedestrians and cyclists, use sidewalks wherever they are available. Cross streets at intersections, paying close attention to traffic and only proceed when it’s safe. Always wear a helmet when cycling and walk your bike across roadways. Follow the guidance of crossing guards, crossing patrols, and school bus drivers.
There are a number of events happening this month, which I flag to your attention: Labour Day (September 1), First Day of School for the English Boards (September 2), River Ward Older Adult Summit – SOLD OUT (September 4), Hunt Club Fall Festival (September 6), First Day of Fall (September 22), Rosh Hashanah ( September 22-24), Franco-Ontarian Day (September 25) and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30).
The third and final draft of the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw will be released on September 8, which will include three public consultation sessions later this month. Please see additional details in the e-newsletter.
Planning for the 2026 City Budget is well underway. The Finance and Corporate Committee will address budget directions this week. Expect to see a draft City budget released in November.
I have spent my summer at the Ward Office in the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre and will now spend more time at City Hall. I work in the ward on Fridays and you are welcome to visit any time, the office is open Monday to Friday.
