Spring Flooding Preparations

Spring Flooding Preparations

As of March 12, 2020 the City of Ottawa entered Enhanced Operations for 2020 Spring Freshet. This is a precautionary measure given previous flooding events along the Ottawa River in recent years. Moving into Enhanced Operations will heighten ongoing coordination between City departments to ensure preparedness.

The City has 250K sandbags filled and ready for deployment with an additional 250K bags in reserves. Staff remain in regular communication with local, provincial and federal partners in addition to local conservation authorities and planning boards monitoring conditions along the Ottawa River Basin. Moreover, a communications plan for residents has been developed and will be implemented overtime as needed in response to real-time developments and weather conditions in the coming weeks.
