December 28th winter advisory from city staff:

A winter storm of approx. 30 cm +/- of snow is forecasted to start at 11 pm tonight and last about 24 hours with blowing snow (sustained 25 km/h winds with gust of 45 km/h) throughout the event. Temperatures are forecasted to be – 10C tonight with a high of -6C tomorrow afternoon.

Staff are On Call for an earlier start if required but regular night & day shifts commence tonight and tomorrow as the Christmas break is over. The focus through the night will be on plowing with salt application on Highway 174, Transitway and the Arterial/Major/Transit routes & collectors, will also be conducting echelon plowing throughout this event. Priority sidewalks units will be deployed and we anticipate an early morning start on plowing our gravel road network.

A further update will be provided between 6-7am tomorrow where we will outline the deployment on the plowing of residential streets and an update on the storm.

The following is a general schedule of snow removal during a winter storm

Une tempête hivernale accompagnée de poudrerie (vents soutenus de 25 km/h et bourrasques pouvant atteindre 45 km/h) qui laissera environ 30 cm de neige est prévue commencer ce soir à 23 h et durer 24 heures. Les températures prévues seront de -10 oC cette nuit et atteindront -6 oC dans l’après-midi demain.
 
Les employés sont sur appel et, s’il y a lieu, se présenteront plus tôt au travail. Toutefois, les quarts réguliers de nuit et de jour reprennent ce soir et demain puisque le congé de Noël est terminé. Les équipes se concentreront durant la nuit sur le déneigement et l’épandage de sel sur la route 174, le Transitway, les principaux circuits de transport en commun, et sur les routes collectrices et les artères. Durant la tempête, les chasse-neige travailleront en formation décalée. Les équipes affectées au déneigement des trottoirs prioritaires seront déployées et nous prévoyons commencer tôt le matin à déblayer le réseau de routes de gravier.
 
Une autre mise à jour sera fournie demain matin entre 6 h et 7 h pour faire le point sur le déneigement des rues résidentielles ainsi que sur la tempête.
