River Ward E-Newsletter, December 1, 2023 | Bulletin électronique du Quartier Rivière, 1 Decembre 2023

As December is now here, let us enjoy the many opportunities this month to gather with friends, family and community. Across Ottawa, festivities related to Hanukkah (December 7 – 13), Christmas (December 25) and Kwanzaa (December 26 – January 1) will be held. From my family to yours, I wish you the very best this month and always.  On December 21, I am hosting the River Ward Holiday Dinner at the Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre (3320 Paul Anka Drive) starting at 5pm and all are welcome.

Last month, City Council voted to proceed with the Lansdowne 2.0 project, which includes rebuilding the north-side stands of the football stadium and the arena. It also includes an opportunity for two residential towers to be built on-site. I ultimately voted against this project, as there was no immediate need for Ottawa taxpayers, the owners of the two stadiums, to replace them at this time. Assessments of the facilities concluded no immediate need to do so. When I compared this large expense against the top priorities established by Council, I could not lend my support. I am grateful for the feedback shared with me by River Ward residents during this lengthy process.

I look forward to 2024 and working with you and members of our community to make River Ward the very best place to call home.
