| Dear Friends and Neighbours, Happy February! February may be the shortest month of the year, but it is filled with many local and City-wide events. February is Black History Month, a month to honour and celebrate the contributions, achievements, and central role of Black residents in Ottawa’s history. There are many events during this month – I encourage you to take note and participate. This month, we will also recognize Ground Hog’s Day (February 2), Lailatul Barat (February 3), Super Bowl Sunday (February 8), St Valentine’s Day (February 14), Family Day (February 16), Mardi Gras (February 17), Chinese New Year (February 17 to March 3), Ash Wednesday (February 18), Ramadan begins (February 18) and Pink Shirt Day (February 25). Winterlude also started this weekend and will run until February 16 – enjoy your capital and all the outdoor fun events. Important upcoming events in River Ward this month: February 3, 6:30pm, Fisher/Meadowlands water infrastructure and road redesign project, Fisher Heights Community Place, 31 Sutton Place , February 6, 6pm (doors open), River Ward Movie Night, Alexander Community Centre, hotdogs, popcorn, juice, all free, in partnership with the W E Gowling PS Council. Movie starts at 6:30pm.February 19, 6:30pm, Alexander Community Centre Final Design Review for the expansion and renovation, Alexander Community Centre. Have a great month.
