River Ward E-Newsletter, April 1, 2026 | Bulletin électronique du Quartier Rivière, 1 avril 2026

Dear Friends and Neighbours!

Happy April – our first full month of spring!  We have earned the sunshine and warmer weather after a long winter.

I am hosting a number of events this month, please note the following:

  • Saturday April 4, Community Spring Breakfast (Alexander Community Centre, 10-11:30am),
  • Tuesday April 7, Turkey, Coyote and Rat Information Session (Carleton Heights Community Centre, 6:30pm),
  • Saturday April 18, River Ward Earth Day Celebration – multiple events (Hunt Club Riverside Park Community Centre, 11am-3pm)

March and April are also peak pothole months.  If you see potholes that need attention, please call 3-1-1 or report on-line here:  311.ottawa.ca/en/3-1-1/service/?id=891fea1a-5dfc-ec11-82e6-000d3af4f046

If the pothole repair has not been promptly addressed, please contact my office.

For those with lawn damage from snow removal operations over the winter months, please send me an email with your address and Public Works will be notified and fix your lawn this spring.

April is a great month, please enjoy the various holidays, celebrations and observations across our great City:  Passover (April 1-8), Good Friday (April 3), Easter (April 5), Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge (April 9), Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 13), Earth Day (April 22), National Day of Mourning (for those killed at the workplace, April 28),

Finally, I will add that even though the 2026 City Budget was approved late last year, I continue to seek resources to renew our sidewalk and road networks.  Like you, I continue to see great need in our ward and my discussions with senior staff at the City continue to bear fruit.

I will close my introduction by saying I welcome the announcement late last week by the City Manager that she has hired a new General Manager for OC Transpo – Rick Leary, former CEO of the Toronto Transit Commission.  Mr Leary is already on the job and I will meet him at 3:30pm today for our first discussion.
