03 Jul Forestry Services commencing Neighbourhood Operational Work in Carlington
Please find below, a memo received by Councillor Brockington from Forestry Services regarding work in the Carlington area…
The City of Ottawa Forestry Services will be commencing the Neighborhood Operational Work the “N.O.W” for short in the Carlington neighborhood. In the upcoming weeks, Forestry Services will start to dispatch City Crews as well as Contractors within this neighborhood to start maintenance tree work on City of Ottawa owned assets on right of ways as well as maintained parklands.
This will be the first time the N.O.W will commence within the Carlington neighborhood. This type of work can generate many inquiries do to the large public vested interest in our urban forest. In short, the work generally consists of, but not limited to, pruning and removing branches for the health of the tree and/or clearance of any encroaching trees on infrastructure and/or safety such as sightlines for pedestrians as well as vehicles. Forestry staff will be notifying residents via flyers prior to work commencing on their street outlining the work to be performed.
We have forecasted the work to take the remainder of 2020 and to be completed prior to year-end. There are approximately 2500 trees to be pruned within this neighborhood, not including the maintained parklands. This forecast is subject to weather and any other unforeseen circumstances that may require Forestry Services resources to be reallocated.
