20 Dec New Year’s Eve celebrations will result in significant traffic impacts
Ottawa – Residents, visitors and businesses are advised that as a result of New Year’s Eve celebrations, there will be significant impacts to traffic in and around the downtown core on December 31, 2016. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use free public transit, carpool or choose a designated driver for their travels.
Several roads will be closed in and around the downtown core due to special events taking place. Please consult the map and full list of road closures and traffic impacts on New Year’s Eve on ottawa.ca.
Public transit is the best option for travelling to New Year’s Eve festivities across the city, and enjoying the many restaurants and bars open downtown. OC Transpo, in partnership with MADD Ottawa, the City’s Safer Roads Ottawa program and other partners, will start its free bus and Para Transpo service at 4:30 p.m. this year. The free transit service will continue until 3 a.m. for those who want to celebrate New Year’s Eve into the early morning hours on January 1.
