River Ward Community Update
Dear friends and neighbours of River Ward,
I hope you and your loved ones are well.
This month, on March 17, we will mark the one year anniversary the City of Ottawa entered into a State of Emergency due to the COVID pandemic.
It has been a very challenging year. As of February 28, 2021, 440 Ottawa residents have died due to COVID, 14,770 have been diagnosed, many have been hospitalized. The lockdowns have devastated many parts of Ottawa’s economy, including the retail, restaurant, transportation, hospitality, convention, travel and tourism sectors. Schools, teachers, students, and parents have had to adapt as well, with school closures, on-line learning, lack of social interaction, and greater public health requirements.
There are signs of hope.
March will see the greatest vaccination campaign to-date, with the first cohort of the general population getting the opportunity to be vaccinated, starting with those 80+. Take the vaccine. It will lessen any symptoms of COVID and could potentially save your life. Even if you are much younger, and healthy, take the vaccine. We are all in this together and our regular routine will return much sooner, the faster we are all vaccinated.
Information about where to be vaccinated and when it is your turn will be communicated via multiple channels. If you aren’t sure about any point, please reach out to my office, we are here to serve you.
To our essential workers in education, health services, grocery and retail, public transportation, and all others who have helped keep our City moving along, thank-you very much.
Later this month, we will also welcome Spring. Spring symbolizes rebirth, hope, a new beginning. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air. The sun will shine on us again.
Take care and be safe,
Sincerely,
Riley Brockington
